Historic Cocoa Village is located in old, restored downtown Cocoa, Florida, between U.S. Hwy 1 and the Indian River, adjacent to State Road 520. Walking down the tree-lined streets, you will see a number of homes and buildings on the National Historic Register, some of them dating back to the 1880's. There are stories about early settlers from the north who in an untamed swamp area who sought a better life

One of the most historic buildings is the Porcher House built in 1916. The Porcher family was Brevard County's largest citrus growers at the turn of the century. Mr. Porcher was the first to wash, inspect and grade his citrus crop. His wife had her own career as the first postmistress of Merritt Island. At one time, there was a loading dock directly the house where commercial steamboats loaded oranges to sell up and down the river. The Cocoa Village Playhouse site was once a Ford dealership in 1918 -- selling Model T's of course. In 1924, it made way for a playhouse which was first called the Aladdin Theater, then Sparks' State Theater (1936), the "Fine Arts Theater" (in the 1960's) and finally the Cocoa Village Playhouse (since 1975). Wonderful Broadway productions are enjoyed here and more than 20 local organizations sponsor events during the year.

The Village is a growing, evolving community! Local Jazz and Classical musical groups entertain crowds at the Gazebo in Myrtice Tharpe Square on Brevard Avenue. There are also holiday celebrations including a New Orleans style Mardi Gras and other special events along with five Craft and Fine Art Shows during the season.

Go back in time or get away from everyday routine. For a memorable afternoon where you can walk historic streets and avenues that tell stories from the past, discover Cocoa Village.
